Like you are done with your chores, study, work and now what?. Well, that’s where books come in. Aftershocks, by Nadia Owusu

Nadia Owusu lived a childhood not every child wish to have. Broken families, scattered relations, messed up life and other abnormalities were part of Nadia Owusu’s childhood. And here she uses all those problematic, stateless, and motherless upbringings in this amazing memoir, reflecting how she grows up amid all those chaos. Beautifully and poetically told, with the right choice of words Nadia Owusu has recounted the lasting legacies of pain and trauma in her new book, Aftershock. She said about her book, “I have written for meaning rather than order.”

A Swim in a Pond in the Rain, by George Saunders

You can’t stop yourself from praising George Saunders’s astonishing powers to link art with life after reading this amazing book. Saunders has spent two decades of his life teaching creative writing in Syracuse University’s MFA program. In his new book, A Swim in a Pond in the Rain, George has used his decades-long coursework and provide us with a masterclass novel. Through his seven memorable stories by Chekhov, Tolstoy, Gogol, and Turgenev, he showcased his talent to the whole world and that talent deserves appreciation. A dialogue in his book, “The part of the mind that reads a story is also the part that reads the world,” has my heart. George argues that by becoming better readers we can also become better citizens. For me this deserves to be in 10 Best Books of 2021 list.

The Nobel committee in 2017 described Kazuo Ishiguro’s books as “novels of great emotional force, which uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world.” These words are exactly what Ishiguro’s this thrilling work is, which is based on both personal and universal interest. And gives both familiar and futuristic vibes at the same time. In this book, Ishiguro tells the story of Klara, an Artificial Friend with exceptional observational qualities. Libertie, by Katilyn Greenidge

Author of famous, We love you, Charlie Freeman, is back with another epic storyline. This striking book is all bout meaning of freedom. Every page of Libertie is rich, live, vivid and vibrant. And offers the best of historical fiction. The story starts in Civil-war era in Brooklyn and revolves around Libertie, a dark-skinned, free-born daughter of a white doctor-mother.

She is constantly reminded of this fact that she is too dark unlike her mother and that snatches away the privilege of most of the things from her. Also, when married to a young man of Haiti, who promised that she will be equal to him on that Island, she discovers that she is still subordinate to all men there. Join liberty on her struggle journey to find freedom for a black woman of that time and generations to come. For me, it’s the most influential book out of the 10 best books to read in 2021.
