Each year Star Wars Day comes for lovers of the Skywalkers, the Resistance, and Yoda’s wise words to celebrate this fictional franchise on May 4th. Hundreds and Thousands of people celebrate this day every year around the globe. On this day people celebrate the Star Wars franchise films directed by George Lucas. And have won the hearts of millions worldwide. Well, how it could not?.

It doesn’t matter if you prefer Star Wars or Star Trek, or you just have to be a sci-fiction aficionado. And you will agree with me that the influence of George Lucas’ Star Wars on pop culture is unquestionable. At first, The holiday was not officially declared by Lucasfilm, but Star Wars fans across the world have chosen to celebrate the holiday as Star Wars Day. But then the 4th of May as Star Wars Day has been embraced by Lucasfilm and Disney as an annual celebration of Star Wars.

History of Star Wars Day, Why do People Say ‘May The 4th Be With You’

Isn’t this strange how the day becomes globally recognized and becomes a kind of official holiday? Well, that’s what good entertainment can do to its fans. On every 4th of May, the fans of Star Wars went crazy and celebrate this day with full enthusiasm. But why do people say this specific phrase ‘May The 4th Be With you’. It’s not that difficult to guess though. This is a good funny pun on the popular Jedi phrase ‘May the Force Be With You’.

In the movies, the phrase is said to wish someone good luck. And also means that they would have help with The Force. The quote first appeared in the Newspaper by the conservative party as “May the Fourth Be with You, Maggie. Congratulations.” This happened on May 4, 1979, the day Margaret Thatcher took up office as the UK Prime Minister.

However, the official celebration of May 4th happened much later at the Toronto Underground Cinema in 2001. The first Star Wars Day festivities included a movie marathon and a costume contest. Favorite fan’s parodies of the series were also enjoyed on that day as the most popular mash-ups and remixes.

How Disney Celebrated This Day?

Most people think of Star Wars Day as nothing but a fad that would die out. Regardless of this fact the films never did die. So for all of them, Disney restarted the whole thing and took the entertainment to a whole new level. In 2015, a new saga comes for Star Wars, with all-new charm, class, lens flares, and everything that Disney could throw at it. And by doing that Disney reignites a fire in Star Wars fans.

The Fans went crazy with Force awakens!

And the new saga delivered to Star War Fans everything they were expecting from 21st Century Star Wars sage. Furthermore, Disney appropriated the holiday, by marking the finale of the series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” last year on Disney+. This year, Disney has decided to celebrate the holiday by debuting the series Star Wars: The Bad Batch. The debut revolves around a bunch of space warriors who make Delta Force look like Brownies and the series is gonna left us on a cliff-hanger, huh!

In short over the last five years, you can see that Star Wars has reached millions of new Jedi warriors. And if we are to know one thing about Disney, then we know that they are not going to left this franchise at rest again.
