Protestors at Al-Aqsa Mosque

Israeli police dispersed worshippers at Al-Aqsa Mosque and elsewhere in Jerusalem and a total of 178 Palestinian protesters are injured and 88 get admitted to hospitals. Police officers fired Rubber balls and stun grenades at people which cause them to get seriously injured. The situation was already worse because of Jewish settlers claiming to evict the Palestinians from the land.

At the beginning of Ramadan, Israel blocked off access to a popular spot where people traditionally mingle at the end of their daylong fast. This move set off two weeks long clashes between Israel and palestinians before Israel lifted the restrictions.

Eviction Threats

But recently clashes resumed due to threats of eviction of dozens of Palestinians in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in east Jerusalem. They have been fighting a long legal battle with Israeli settlers. Because they have eyes and are trying to get their hands on this property. Last week, residents of Sheikh Jarrah and international activists get nightly vigils to support the Palestinians under the potential threat of forced displacement.

Border police and forces of Israel have attacked the sit-ins using tear gas, rubber-coated bullets, dirty water, and shock grenades over the past few days. Dozens of Palestinians arrested after they tried to fight back with bottles and stones.

Reuters news agency quoted Al-Aqsa officially calling for calm over the loudspeakers.

“Police must immediately stop firing stun grenades at worshippers, and the youth must calm down and be quiet!”

Earlier that day, thousands of Palestinian worshippers packed into the mosque on the last Friday of Ramadan to perform prayers. And many stayed on to protest to support Palestinians who were facing eviction from their homes on Israeli-occupied land.

The Palestinian Red Crescent emergency service:

They said 136 people were injured in a clash at Al-Aqsa Mosque and at other places in Jerusalem. The numbers raised to 177 including 88 people who get hospitalized. It says most wounds were at the face and eyes due to rubber-coated metal bullets and shrapnel from stun grenades. Six Israeli police officers were also injured in the clash.

US is extremly Concerned:

The united states said that they are deeply concerned about the rising tensions between the two nations. And are appealing on all sides to de-escalate these issues. They also showed their worries about the eviction issue.

A hearing on the long-running legal case will be held at Israel’s Supreme Court, on Monday.

East Jerusalem was occupied by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war. And Israeli considers the whole city its capital. While the Majority of international communities don’t recognize this fact. Palestinians claim East Jerusalem as their future capital of a hoped-for independent state.
