Evan Fournier; A New Trade of Celtics

The potential trade of Evan Fournier between Magic Orlando and the Boston Celtics has been in rumors from pastweek. The Boston Celtics have finally traded for Evan Fournier by sending Jeff Teague and two second-round picks back to Magic Orlando. The deal was first reported to us by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN via Twitter.

Fournier is an acceptable and unremarkable player with averaging career-highs of 19.7 points and 3.7 assists per game this season for the Magic Orlando. Fournier is shooting 38.8% on 3-pointers this season in 30.3 minutes per game. Magic has turned trade-deadline day into the start of their rebuild by doing this shocking trading act. As we all know Vucevic and Fournier were Orlando’s two leading score makers this season. Evan Fournier become part of Celtics on Thursday in their first midseason trade since the season of 2014-2015.

1. The Celtics will maintain Bird Rights on Evan Fournier this offseason. Trading Fournier comes with a downside that he is a free agent this year. Celtics had lost a lot of free agents this year. They can’t afford to lose him now. Especially after the fact that which player they had traded to acquire him. 1. The Celtics will use traded player exception to land Evan. The main thing in doing this deal with Boston is the $28.2 million Gordon Hayward traded player exception. It allows Boston to cover Fournier’s complete $17 million salary. This means that Magic didn’t have to take any money back. Boston will be left with $11 million of the exception which they can use in a separate deal if they want.

1. The Celtics (21-23) are currently ranking on the eighth number in the Eastern Conference standings. And it ranks 14th in the NBA in 3-pointers made and on 11th rank in 3-point percentage. So, we can say that the addition of Fournier’s shooting could help the Celtics to improve in both areas.
