From Bella Hadid to Billie Eilish: Celebrities are setting the standard for environmentally friendly attire.

A-listers in Hollywood restyled already owned outfits into expensive fashion creations.

Climate change is becoming increasingly intertwined with the fashion industry, with rapid fashion consumption posing significant environmental risks. Celebrities have entered the field of sustainable fashion as a result of this, in the hopes of reducing the fashion industry’s role in environmental changes.

This year, Hollywood A-listers walked the red carpets of a lot of events, wearing previously owned outfits or donning expensive couture creations made out of Kim sustainably sourced fabrics. Here’s how Hollywood stars like Bella Hadid and Shawn Mendes paved the path for sustainable design.

Kim Kardashian

Kim‘s Met Gala costume in 2022 put fans into a frenzy, as she made it a point to encourage eco-friendly fashion choices. With her dazzling debut wearing Marilyn Monroe’s renowned outfit when she sang ‘Happy Birthday to President John F Kennedy in 1962, the style icon and model sparked the fire on the red carpet.

According to Vogue, this vintage gown was designed by Jean Louis, a French Hollywood costume designer, based on a sketch by Bob Mackie and dates back to the 1960s. The rhinestone-encrusted dress was sheer, nude, and form-fitting, hugging the model’s body.

The model wore it with a white fur coat similar to Monroe’s to recreate the original appearance. Her bleached blonde hair was pulled back into a neat ponytail to show off her Cartier diamond earrings. The model opted for her typical nude makeup look in order to keep the outfit’s stunning simplicity. The long history of the gown made this year’s Met Gala extra special for Kim.

Bella Hadid

As Bella Hadid walked the red carpet at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, all eyes were on the supermodel. According to W Magazine, the outfit is from Gianni Versace‘s 1987 Spring Collection and was previously designed for Helga Dernesch, a soprano, and mezzo-soprano. The strapless black floor-length gown was belted with taffeta at the waist, enhancing her brilliant décolleté.

A sleek braided bun and Chopard earrings and rings added to the antique dress’s elegance, reflecting classic ‘Old Hollywood’ glamour. The model tried to give her own modern twist to the look by pairing it with dramatic eye makeup that included thick eyeliner.

Shawn Mendes

Shawn Mendes impressed audiences with an upcycled suit and coat inspired by the early 1900s, making him one of the few celebrities to properly represent the ‘Gilded Glamour’ theme of the 2022 Met Gala. The singer wore a red and blue coat designed by Tommy Hilfiger with elbow slits and a popped collar with six gold buttons on the front.

Mendes enchanted in a beautiful navy suit with a black turtleneck underneath and brought the look together with simple, golden band rings and rocking blue nail color to bring a touch of modernity to the costume once the coat was off. According to People’s Magazine, the singer’s amazing likeness to Bridgertons Lord Anthony Bridgerton embodied the element of the gilded period in this appearance, which was combined with black, leather-heeled boots.

Billie Eilish

At this year’s Met Gala, the Gen-Z singer-songwriter Billie Eilish appeared as the most on-theme star. The singer did not shy away from an expensive outfit this year, as she dazzled the audience in a Gucci-designed gown with a Gilded Age motif. Despite having a brand-new design, the gown was created entirely of recycled materials.

Her upper half was encased in a champagne corset with a corsage at the top, which extended into a gorgeously draped satin, champagne, floor-length gown. Her long-sleeved top was designed of a drab, sage-colored net fabric.

A black vintage choker from jewelers Fred Leighton was layered with a sparkly necklace and matched with brilliant earrings to complete the outfit. Her vegan leather shoes were specifically crafted for her.
